CAMP DETAILS

The UTSA Summer Band Institute offers a comprehensive music experience focused on developing the musician in addition to their playing techniques. At this one-week playing intensive  camp, campers will perform with one of our concert bands and attend daily classes that include rehearsals, sectional and master classes, and a section of rehearsals that focus on performing soundtrack music. This camp provides an opportunity for students to receive exceptional instruction on the instrument that they love, and to foster a deeper understanding of various musical components. It is also our goal to help promote positive behavior and leadership skills in which all students can take back with them to their respective band programs.

Each day is divided into structured routines that focus on developing individual musicianship and includes an hour break for lunch. Campers put down their instruments at 6:00pm, but  the day isn’t over yet! Each evening students can participate in recreational activities such as swimming, sand volleyball, camp Olympics, movie night, various recreational sports, rock-wall climbing, basketball, a trip to Pinstack as well as a formal banquet to cap off the week!

Performance opportunities are also an integral part of the camp experience. Students will perform in a master class setting as well as in a public concert at the conclusion of the week. Eligible campers must have attended grades 6-12 in the '24-'25 school year. Additionally, campers should have at least one year of school instruction or equivalent.

Grade Completed in Spring 2025:
  • 6th, 7th - Participate in Middle School curriculum
  • 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th - Participate in High School curriculum
EXPLORE CAMP LIFE

Music isn’t the only reason that you come to camp! It is also a chance to experience what living and learning in a collegiate setting is all about. We understand that for some of you, this will be the first time that you, your son or your daughter will be away from home for an extended period of time, so be sure to read our Parent & Camper Handbook. This handbook contains important information to help you prepare for camp. We also understand that the structure of our camp is not like many other camps here in Texas. We take great pride in the fact that we are able to offer our campers with a unique camper experience. Our mission for our camp will continually be to expose our campers to a wide variety of musical repertoire and performance opportunities.

RECREATION

Our evening recreation activities are designed to let campers take a break from their instruments and spend some social time with new friends. Each evening there will be a free recreation activity; events such as movie nights, nights spent at the recreation center, swimming, ice cream socials, sports / games and more. All campers, commuters and residents will benefit from a fun outing to Pinstack.

Day Camper: $477 ($450 + $27 Fee)
Includes tuition with a lunch provided each day (T-F) and a banquet dinner on Friday.

Overnight Camper: $731.50 ($690 + $41.50 Fee)

This banquet is open to all family and friends while tickets last!

This banquet is not the end of camp concert (this is held on Saturday) - but rather a celebration of the week and an opportunity to recognize our outstanding campers! The banquet includes a catered meal, presentation of awards, special acknowledgements and dance.

Please note that camper tickets are covered through their camp tuition. All additional guests will need to purchase their own tickets upon registration. If you are needing to purchase or add tickets, please email us directly at utsasbi@gmail.com to check banquet ticket availability.
